The English version of Lakshmi Purana is available at:

http://www.oriyanari.com/id4.html

In this the vidhi for Manabasa Gurupar Puja is mentioned as follows: " Wash the floor and decorate it with jhoti painting of rice paste. On a low table (khatuli), spread some newly harvested paddy grains of white colour. Fill a mana (a measuring pot made of cane) with such grains and place it on the low table. Wash three betel nuts in turmeric water and place them on the mana . Decorate the place with vegetables, flowers  and coloured cloth. Then invoke Mahalakshmi with lamp and incense and offer three offerings of meals in puja."

This is a brief description. The full details are mentioned in the original Oriya Lakshmi Purana, which you may find at the same site: http://www.oriyanari.com/id4.html . At the end of the Oriya version you would also find the mantras and stutis to be used at various stages of the puja. Since it is not possible to mention all of them here in English script, we mention only three of them:

Staba:
Trailokye poojite devi kamale vishnu ballabhe
Yatha twam susthira Krishne yatha bhaba mahee sthira
Iswari kamala Lakshmi chanchala sri haripriya
Dwadasaitani namani Lakshmi sampoojya yah pathet
Sthira lakshmi bhabe sya putra-darabhih saha.

Pushpanjali:
Namaste sarva devanam baradasi haripriye
ya gati stvam prasannanam saame bhuyatvadacharnat.

Pranama:
Vishwa roopasya bharyasi padme padmalaye shubhe
Sadhhartah paahimam devi Mahalakshmi namostute
Vandeham dhanadatri Mahalakshmim devi namonamami.

We have been told by our Astro Advisor that there is no bar on performing the Manabasa Gurubar Puja on 27 the Nov. 2008 (Amabasya). However on this particular day the mana (grain measuring pot) should not be filled with paddy as is done on other Thursdays.

Hi

I would like to know about some rituals for Manabasa Vrat -
1. Do you have to keep upavasa for whole day? What you should eat?
2. It is written in previous mail that three offerings of meals to be given in puja. You have to do it once or have different offering at different time throught the day? What offerings should be given
3. Once you start this vrat , if you are not able to do perform this vrat for 2 or 3 years for some reason , is it OK? I heard for Sudasha vrat you should not discontinue. Same rule apply here also?

Can someone help me with these ?

Sunita

Sunita,
We should try to do pooja as given in the book but local area hisaba re sabu jaga re pooja bidhi kichhi allaga hoi thae.

1] pura upabasa rahiba jaruri nuhe kichhi bhi Debi nku dia hoi thiba(eg.fruits, kheeri, manda) bhogo khai rahi heba.

2] book hisaba re 3 times offering bhogo 3 thara re dia jay(in 3 different times).1st time (in morning) fruits or paneer(chenna guda).2nd times(in afternoon) khichidi,puri & tarkari(made in ghee) and 3rd time(after evening)kheeri or manda.

3]yes,same rule for this vrat also, you should not discontinue if you have any problems, you can just do fasting any other of your home member can do pooja(pooja na karile bhi chaliba kintu upabasa rakhiba darkara)

Dear kanya

The vidhi described by you is same as my mother told me to do. She told me that for any puja, bhakti is most important. If you really want to do this puja, pray to Maa Lakshmi with utmost devotion. besides this, it's upto your ability to follow other rituals.

Mu raatire jhuti pakai sakkale puja kari chenna and fruits bhog re lagai debi, office ru aasila pare bahi padhi kheeri bhog lagai puja uthai debi.
Kintu din re tame kan khai rahi jao? anya vrat re mu phal and sagu khai. Tame kan karo ?

What if you are not supposed to remain hungry for long period of time? (medical reason)?

Let me know.

-Sunita

gurubara upabasa pain pura fasting darakara nahin.upabasare puja heuthiba jekaunashi bhoga khai kariheba.Fasting is the most restict for pregnency.tenu kichhi bi(khira, fruits, manda, khiri, ghia paratha etc)khai upabasa ku continue kariheba.khalipeta re rahile thiknuhen.emiti nuhen ki upabasa khadya pregnency pain restriction.

Hi Jayalakshmi

I dont think its true. Mehendi is considered as a part of suhagan's sringar( married woman's ornament). In many parts of India, it is mandatory to apply mehendi on all festivals and fast. There is a separate ceremony before marriage where mehendi is applied ritually with much fan fare.  have seen in Orissa also, where girls are applying mehendi on both hands during marriage. I am eldest daughter-in-law and I did the same in my marriage. I dont think there is any restriction on it.
